LeSage, M.G., Keyler, D.E., & Pentel, P. University of Minnesota and Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation.
This talk will discuss animal models for examining various aspects of nicotine addiction, which include maintenance and reinstatement of nicotine self-administration under unlimited and limited access conditions. Some of these models have been used to examine nicotine replacement as a means of smoking reduction in order to establish quantitative relationships between level of nicotine replacement and degree of suppression of nicotine self-administration. Parallels between behaviors and treatment response observed in humans and rats will be discussed
